Staff Support Access to Lifeline

If you are feeling anxious, depressed, or worried, you can get free and confidential support. You can be assured that the highly trained members of Lifecraft staff who take your call are on hand to listen and can guide you to local support services that might be right for you. If you need someone to talk to, you can call the Lifeline number, 0808 808 2121 from 11am to 11 pm, 365 days a year. Please note that Lifeline is available for those living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough only. If you are a staff member who works in the region, but lives outside of this area, Lifeline will signpost you to the Hub or Samaritans depending on need.

Counselling Support

We regret to inform you that we are currently unable to accommodate new counselling support requests.

In order to access counselling services, you now need to email the Staff Support Hub and our trained clinicians will undertake an assessment on how best to meet your needs and will make an appropriate referral. Dependant on what is on offer from your employer the referral may go to counsellors at your organisation. If your employer does not offer counselling then you may be referred to the individual counselling services operated by Relate, or referred to another counselling service. All the counselling services we recommend, are confidential and your employers will not be informed of what goes on in counselling.

Counselling services are available for all the health and social care staff working in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, this includes members of the third sector who work in Health and Social Care.

Call Back Service

If you are feeling worried about your mental health and want to discuss this with a trained mental health professional, you can self-refer to our Callback Service.

A member of our healthcare team will talk things through with you and can recommend things that might support you. Callbacks are available from 8-9am, 12-1pm and 5-6pm every weekday.

Working Well and 'Remaining in Work' Support

We are helping anyone from Health & Social Care, who has suffered illness, injury or disability, and who has been off work due to illness for 2 weeks or longer, to return to or remain in their job. The service is also suitable for those who have frequent short term sickness absence (return to work support) and for those members of staff who are feeling unwell or burnt out but are still in work (work retention). This service is provided by our team of Occupational Therapists who are able to carry out a “whole person” assessment, including job demands, and provide relevant support and recommendations to the staff member and manager (with consent) based on this.

With your consent, we will liaise with other services also involved in supporting you such as in-house occupational health services, GP or mental health services. We do not seek to duplicate the role of these services, instead, complimenting and enhancing them.

How it works:

  1. Referral by self or management by completing the referral form
  2. The assessment is made via telephone, video call or in person
  3. The support plan will be agreed with you and may include the following:
    1. further job demand analysis or workplace evaluation
    2. advice and support for self-management of health conditions
    3. workplace modifications
    4. recommendations on adjustments to work pattern or environment
    5. referral to other services (e.g. mental health services)
    6. health advice relevant to returning to work
    7. support to liaise with line manager/supervisor on return to work
  4. Follow up support is discussed and agreed. Typically, 4-6 sessions are required but this can be flexible.

Online Support Forums

Working in care and health services can be tough on the emotions, and the covid pandemic has only increased that impact.

We offer a safe space for supportive group discussions that are led by our team of qualified therapists and psychologists. For example, we hold monthly forums on specific discussion topics such as the effects of Covid on our daily lives.

In addition, we can provide a forum for specific groups such as GP, administration and clerical staff to share ways of managing during the working day, especially when dealing with abuse from the public.

All forums are published on our Eventbrite page.

If you have any ideas for topics or groups you would like to suggest, please get in touch by emailing: staffsupporthub@cpft.nhs.uk.

Online Webinars

We have a series of supportive wellbeing webinars hosted by our team of experts on a range of topics. Usually lasting for an hour, we will share ideas, tips and best practices as well as providing you with an opportunity to ask questions and actively participate in the events. We attempt to host these events at a variety of times during the day to allow for shift workers to attend.

Previous topics have included:

  • Managing Stress
  • Managing Fatigue
  • Sleep for Wellbeing
  • Post (long) Covid
  • Wellbeing Conversations for Managers
  • Back to Normal?
  • Mindful Wednesdays
  • Menopause Support
  • Financial Wellbeing
  • Dealing with Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence

If you would like to make any suggestions on subjects you would like us to hold webinars on, please get in touch by emailing: staffsupporthub@cpft.nhs.uk.

Support for Managers

Leaders need support too! Often the ‘go to’ people of departments by staff, colleagues and higher management, it’s understandable that we are hearing of stories of stress and ‘burn out’.

Keeping a team and department running often takes its toll so we are here to support you and your wellbeing too.

We are hosting events aimed to support you and your everyday working life, such as how to have good mental health and wellbeing conversations with your team, managing sickness absences or wellbeing issues and information and advice on supporting employees with common health conditions.

See our Eventbrite page for webinars and forums targeted at managers.
