Roles Videos

Life as a student doctor at Anglia Ruskin University.

Anaesthetics Doctor

Anaesthetists, the largest group of hospital-based specialists, give anaesthetics for surgical, medical and psychiatric procedures. They facilitate pain free child-birth, resuscitate acutely unwell patients, run chronic pain services and lead intensive care units.

Oncologists

These doctors manage patients who have cancer. They use a range of approaches such as drugs or targeted radiation (types of energy) to destroy cancer cells. Helping patients understand and come to terms with their condition is another important part of the role. As with other roles, excellent communication skills are required.

Emergency Medicine

Doctors in emergency medicine (EM) carry out the immediate assessment and treatment of patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses and injuries.

GP NHS

General practitioners (GPs) treat all common medical conditions and refer patients to hospitals and other medical services for urgent and specialist treatment. They focus on the health of the whole person combining physical, psychological and social aspects of care.
