Care Certificate Theory

It is recommended that whatever role you are looking at in health and care that you sign up and work through the care certificate theory.

The Care Certificate Theory isn’t mandatory for all health and care roles, however many of our NHS organisations consider this desirable knowledge for anyone working in their organisation.

The Care Certificate is an identified set of standards that health and care professionals adhere to in their daily working life. Designed with the non-regulated workforce in mind, the Care Certificate gives everyone the confidence that health and care professionals have the same introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high-quality care and support, in their own particular workplace setting.

Each organisation may have a compulsory workbook you will need to complete when are employed by starting and completing the care certificate theory now; you can:

  • Work at the theory at your own pace
  • Be prepared
  • Gain insight & knowledge
  • Put into practice the theory that you have learned once you start
  • It could help you at interview or on your application (desirable knowledge).
  • It shows that you want to learn more (development)

To gain the complete the full care certificate you will have a practical element which is mandatory for some roles in health and care (such a health care support worker) in order to progress in their career.
