Did you know?

You’ll be expected to complete the Care Certificate if you’re new to care, employed as an adult social care worker, or are providing direct care in a residential/nursing home, a hospice, or are a home care worker. The Care Certificate isn’t mandatory for health roles, but anyone in health or care can complete it. In fact, many of our NHS organisations consider this desirable knowledge for anyone working in their organisation, whether they are a cook, a cleaner or a clinician.

We offer the theory as part of our Pre-Employment and Senior Academies.

Why?

  • You will improve your knowledge and understanding in health and care
  • It will prepare you for work in health & care
  • Once completed you can put it on your CV or application form
  • Its free
  • If it is a requirement for your role once employed, all you will need to do is undertake the practical element with a trained mentor or assessor.

Junior Academy

The Junior Health Academy is aimed at school students aged 13-15 who have an interest in health and care.

As a Junior Academy student, you will be invited to attend special sessions (typically three hours long) where a range of health care professionals will be on hand to support you to gain a greater understanding of the many roles available in the NHS (please note that only virtual opportunities are currently available due to Covid-19.).

Register your interest in the Junior Academy here . If you are under 18 you will be asked for your parent/ carers consent to register.

Senior Academy

The Senior Academy is an opportunity to learn about the NHS and social care and the roles it has to offer. We offer the chance to not only meet a range of healthcare professionals, to gain a better understanding of what their role entails and possible routes into the varying careers. This programme will run as a 6-month programme with one session per month meaning you will continue your college studies.

During the interactive and engaging sessions you will cover areas such as;

  • Communication skills
  • infection control
  • First aid
  • Patient care i.e. observations
  • Interview skills
  • Routes into health and social care i.e. university, apprenticeships etc

The academy experience also aims to provide individuals with life skills such as;

  • Confidence
  • Time management
  • Resilience
  • Enhanced self-awareness

At the end of the 6-month programme you will be asked to come together in small groups to present what you have learnt, your highlights and experiences in a fun and creative way at an awards ceremony (please note that only virtual opportunities are currently available due to Covid-19.).

To attend the Senior Academy you should be aged between 16-18 years.

If you are not 16 years of age you may want to consider the Junior Academy.

Pre-employment Academy

Our Pre-Employment Academy is for individuals over 18 years of age, who are interested in a career in healthcare, but feel they are lacking the necessary knowledge, experience or qualifications.

Completely free of charge, our Pre-Employment Academy offers a series of online modules that will provide you with insight into the various careers in Health and Social Care within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. You will be able to access and work through a series of videos, learning activities, quizzes and reflective opportunities in your own time. You will also have access to live events hosted by our health and care ambassadors, to answer your questions as you work through the modules.

If you want to continue your journey to retrain, you have the opportunity to sign up for a 12-15 week flexible programme, run by one of our partners, designed to give you valuable knowledge skills and experience to propel you into a successful career in healthcare. This includes completing the Care Certificate Theory, a Level 1 qualification*, free mentoring, free training in English and Maths contextualised to the sector, funding for travel assistance or for childcare and carers, employability skills i.e. CV, application and interview techniques.
